Educational Philosophy
As a teacher, I truly believe that education is a process that never stops and is not limited to a classroom. Education is the process of learning new ideas and connecting those new ideas to other ideas or using those ideas to create your own ideas. Creativity is vital to education and self expression. Humans are naturally creative and have an innate need to express themselves creatively. I believe that every individual person is intelligent because there are proven to be several types of intelligence. Just because a student does not have traditional "book smart" intelligence does not mean that they are unintelligent; it simply means that they do not learn or express themselves in a traditional way. As an educator, it is my passion to help students discover how intelligent they really are and allow them to express that intelligence in a way that will fulfill the need for creativity in their lives.
Educational History
I did not have a traditional route to becoming an educator. After graduating high school in 2007, I attended Armstrong State University with the intention of eventually getting my Doctorate degree and teaching college. I graduated in December 2011 with a Bachelor's degree in English Communication. After almost a year of working in a totally unrelated field, I began my Master's degree program in Professional Leadership and Communication at Armstrong. Through learning how to develop adult leaders in the community, I realized that I could make a much greater impact to society by helping to get more students into college. I began my second Master's degree (in Education) before even officially graduating from my first Master's program. I graduated with my Master's in Education in May 2016, and I am currently enrolled in Georgia Southern's Education Specialist (Ed.S.) program for Secondary English Curriculum.
Personal History
I am so excited to be back at school after our Corona-cation since March, but I am still a little afraid of spreading anything to my cute toddler at home. I will struggle in the first few weeks to learn everyone's names (especially those faces covered by masks), but I am really looking forward to this school year. We have been given many opportunities to prove the value of education, real education. I do my best to be different from any other teacher that you've ever had. Some students really appreciate that, and some students do not like a change from the normal; both of those are perfectly great!
I enjoy watching TV: Street Outlaws, Chopped, The Property Brothers, Vampire Diaries, Netflix, Disney+, etc. I listen to all types of music and read all types of writing. I love to travel; I've been to many different countries: Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and the Bahamas. I also enjoy travelling the United States: Puerto Rico, Gatlinburg, Robbinsville, New York City, and Alaska. |
